Uruguayan attacking midfielder Gaston Ramirez is close to joining Premier League newcomers Southampton. A move away from Bologna was on the cards but everyone was expecting him to join a greater club as it was reported that Liverpool, Inter Milan and Juventus were all interested in him. Before today there were no indications that Southampton were interested in Ramirez. The clubs have already agreed a fee which is of 15 million euros.
Ramirez said that he is still a Bologna player but he admitted that he’s close to moving to Southampton as there are only a few details left to seal the deal. He also added that he’s looking forward to joining Southampton as it is the only team that wants him to play always. In other teams he would just be one of the many. Lastly he mentioned that he’s looking forward to leaving Italian football as according to him it’s currently in crisis.
Gaston Ramirez is an Uruguay international having represented his country at senior level 9 times although he still has to find the back of the net. He kick started his professional career in his homeland with Penarol. At only 19 years of age he moved to Italy to join Bologna playing 58 games and scoring 12 goals for the Italian side.
