Transfer News — 30 October 2013

Xabi AlonsoXabi Alonso’s future is very uncertain as his contract will expire next summer and that combined with the limited playing time he is getting is convincing him that a move away from Madrid could be his best option. Xabi Alonso joined Real Madrid from Liverpool in 2009. At Real Madrid he became a mainstay and flourished under the guidance of Jose Mourinho. Last summer Jose Mourinho left Real Madrid to rejoin Chelsea. Xabi Alonso couldn’t start the season as he was injured but now that he has recovered new Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti, is preferring Illarramendi to him.

Xabi Alonso is attracting the interest of several clubs with Chelsea and Juventus topping the list of suitors. At Chelsea, Xabi Alonso, would be reunited with Portuguese manager, Jose Mourinho, a manager that has trust in him. On the other hand Juventus is a side that has been interested in him for several years. Juventus want to sign Xabi Alonso as a replacement for the most probably departing Andrea Pirlo. They see him as the ideal replacement for Pirlo as he has the quality and experience required to fill in the shoes of the Italian midfielder. Should he join Juventus he would be handed the keys of the Juventus midfield and would be pivotal to the teams success. A difference between the two sides is that Chelsea are interested in signing Alonso in January whilst Juventus would prefer to wait till next summer to sign him on a free transfer. Should Alonso keep on spending most of his time on the bench, with the World Cup happening next summer, he may choose to push for a move in January to avoid missing out on a World Cup call.
