Premier League — 27 August 2013

Manchester United Chelsea Premier LeagueYesterday two giants of English football faced each other as Manchester United faced Chelsea at Old Trafford. The expectations before the match were very high as everyone was keen to see how the tactical battle between Mourinho and Moyes would end. Expectations were betrayed as the match ended 0-0 with not many chances being created during the match. The defensive lines of both teams limited the opposing attacking force.

The main highlight of the match was when it was confirmed that Rooney was playing for Manchester United. Following the constant transfer rumors linking the England international to Chelsea many were unsure if Moyes would field Rooney. He did field him as a second striker behind Van Persie. Rooney didn’t appear too concerned about the rumors as he played a good match full of determination. The match started with Manchester United trying to be the dangerous side whilst Chelsea limiting their attacks and being ready to hit back with quick counter attacks. As the match progressed Chelsea kept being more careful in not conceding rather than trying to score. On a good note the match was a fair one with the distribution of cards reflecting that as only two yellow cards were shown.

Yesterday’s result was good for Chelsea as they played in their enemies den whilst slightly disappointing for Manchester United as they were looking to improve their form against Mourinho’s Chelsea. That said, this result allows both sides to continue their league run with optimism.
