Transfer News — 20 August 2012

Douglas MaiconMaicon has been wanting to leave Inter Milan since 2010 and it seems that finally his wish will come true. Inter Milan have decided to sell the Brazilian defender as his contract expires next summer and they don’t want to lose him for free. Real Madrid have been interested in Maicon for the last two years but they’re only interested in signing Maicon on a free transfer due to his age (31). On the other hand Chelsea are very interested in Maicon and they’re ready to pay for the Brazilian. It seems that Maicon will join the European Champions.

Chelsea want Maicon as Branislav Ivanovic is currently playing in that position. By signing Maicon, Chelsea will be able to field Ivanovic as a central defender to form a formidable defensive line with Maicon, John Terry and Ashley Cole.

Maicon started his professional career in his homeland at Cruzeiro. In 2004 he moved to Europe to join French side Monaco. In 2006 he moved to Inter Milan where he established himself as a world class player. He is also a Brazil international as he represented his country 66 times and scored 6 goals.
