Premier League — 20 August 2013

Manchester City-NewcastleManchester City started the season in style as they won 4-0 against Newcastle in their Premier League debut for this season. This win is very important for Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini, as the critics eyes were all on him. On the other hand Newcastle manager, Alan Pardew, is already under fire with this result following the sides results last season.

After only six minutes Manchester City took the lead thanks to a David Silva goal. It didn’t take them long to double the lead as Aguero scored in the 22nd minute. Newcastle’s hopes of getting a result were shattered in the 45th minute as Steven Taylor got sent off. Manchester City kept adding to their leading as they scored a third in the 50th minute through Yaya Toure and a fourth in the 74th minute through Samir Nasri.

This win is a statement from Manchester City that they will be challenging for the title this season after a disappointing last season. Chelsea and Manchester United are warned. On the other hand it seems that Newcastle will face another season of struggle in which they will underachieve.
