West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has revealed that he will sign a new contract with the club if they manage to secure 38 points this season, which is just five points away.

The former-Blackburn boss’s contract expires at the end of the season and there has been speculation over his future with the Irons.

Confirmation

Allardyce told Sky Sports: “I want us to get safe and then if the contract’s already there and ready to sign, I’ll sign it, move on and get ready for next season.

“I’m not so sure we have to wait until we’re mathematically safe. I think if we get to 38 points both parties would say that’s going to be enough this season. Hopefully we can get to 38 points as quickly as we can, then we’ll have a few games left it achieve more than 40 points if we can.”

Unpopular

The fact West Ham stay in the top flight this season will be popular with their supporters, but their boss isn’t that popular. The Irons fans have criticised the former-Bolton boss for what they see as long ball football.

West Ham fans believe that their team should play attractive, passing football, but in truth so does every set of fans. Unfortunately for their fans West Ham doesn’t really have the financial or playing resources to play that way.

Winning

Everybody knows the sort of football Sam Allardyce gets his teams to play. It may not be pretty on the eye, but it seems to get results and keeps teams in the top flight. It was also good enough to get the club back to the top flight from the Championship.

Improvement

West Ham are in a far better position now than they were when Sam Allardyce arrived and West Ham fans should be greatful for that. Whether the majority of West Ham fans want big Sam to sign a new contract is another matter.
