Premier League Transfer News — 05 January 2013

Demba Ba has completed one of the biggest transfers of the transfer window so farThe transfer window opened just a few days ago and there has already been a host of moves in the transfer market.

Liverpool have made the biggest money signing of this transfer window so far, completing the £12million signing of Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea.

Chelsea replaced the England striker with Senegalese international striker Demba Ba, after the London club activated the £7million release clause in Ba’s Newcastle contract. The North East side have already re-invested some of the fee.

The Magpies have brought in right-back Mathieu Debuchy from Lille for a fee in the region of £5million. The French international was one of his national team’s best players during Euro 2012 in the summer.

West Ham have been very active in the transfer market already. Hammers boss Sam Allardyce has brought in former-England international Joe Cole on a free transfer from Liverpool.

West Ham have also signed Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh on-loan until the end of the season. The Moroccan international has struggled to make an impact at Emirates Stadium. Another London club Tottenham have agreed to sign German starlet Lewis Holtby on a free transfer in the summer.

The young midfielder is highly-rated and has an English dad. Spurs have already completed the transfer of former-Manchester United defender Zeki Fryers from Standard Liege for an undisclosed fee.

Manchester City’s out-of-favour defender Joleon Lescott is being linked with a host of clubs, including former-club Everton, QPR and Aston Villa. The England international has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.

Wigan have completed the signing of midfielder Roger Espinoza from MLS franchise Sporting Kansas City. The Honduran arrives on a free transfer, due to his contract expiring. Fulham have moved to strengthen their attack by bringing in Dutch youngster Chris David from FC Twente for an undisclosed fee.
