Barcelona announced via twitter that Arsenal’s Alex Song will be joining them. This move was expected as Arsenal decided not to field the Cameroon international yesterday. They said that Song was suffering a minor injury but everyone thought that the real reason was a transfer to Barcelona. Barcelona have stated on their website that Song will be joining them for a fee of 19 million euros on a five year contract. He will also have a release clause of 80 million euros. Barcelona signed Song to field him either as a defensive midfielder or as a central defender next to Mascherano or Pique.
This will be a big blow for Arsenal fans as they feel that they lost another important piece of the jigsaw puzzle. Song had joined Arsenal back in 2005 after starting his professional career in France at Bastia. He played more than 140 games for Arsenal and scored 7 goals. Song is a Cameroon international, he represented his country 30 times without finding the back of the net yet.
