Juventus are Italian Champions for the 2012-2013 season following today’s 1-0 win against Palermo. Their win against Palermo extended their lead on second placed Napoli to fourteen points with only four matches left for Napoli. Everyone was expecting Juventus to clinch the title today as they only needed a point.
Juventus vs Palermo wasn’t a beautiful match as on one end Juventus already had the title celebrations in mind whilst on the other end Palermo were playing a defensive match to at least try to secure a point that would have helped them in their battle against relegation. The first half was very quiet with no significant goal scoring opportunities taking place. The second half also started slowly until Palermo almost surprised everyone when they hit the upright thanks to a diagonal shot by Miccoli. The fright motivated Juventus to push harder for a goal. Their perseverance was rewarded as Vucinic was fouled by Donati in the box and from the penalty spot Arturo Vidal did not miss the target. On a bad note for Juventus, Paul Pogba was sent off as he spat towards Aronica after the Palermo defender hit Pogba in the face.
The debate on how many leagues Juventus won is still ongoing as according to the Italian Football Federation Juventus won 29 leagues whilst according to Juventus they’ve won 31 championship titles.
