Super Cup — 18 August 2013

Juventus Lazio Super CupJuventus have won the Italian Super Cup convincingly as they won against Lazio 4-0. The match was a balanced one in the early minutes. In the 21st minute of the match Claudio Marchisio had to be substituted as he injured himself in a challenge with a Lazio defender. Marchisio was replaced by Paul Pogba whom after only two minutes of being on the pitch managed to open the score for the bianconeri. Lazio tried to level the match but were out-shined by the Juventus midfield and defensive line. The first half ended 1-0 for Juventus.

The second half started with a determined Lazio side that was looking to level the match but Juventus surprised the Rome based side thanks to a counter attack that was finalized by Giorgio Chiellini following an assist from Stephan Lichtsteiner. Lazio were shocked by this goal and conceded another two goals within five minutes. Lichtsteiner scored the third goal in the 54th minute whilst new signing, Carlos Tevez, found the back of the net in the 56th minute. After the fourth goal Juventus created some more chances that weren’t finalized whilst Lazio pushed for a consolation goal that never arrived thanks to some great saves by Gianluigi Buffon.

This is the 6th time that Juventus have won the Italian Super Cup which makes them, together with AC Milan, the club that won the Super Cup the most times.
