Inter Milan collapsed in San Siro yesterday night, due to Gilardino’s goal. The defeat did not arrive because Bologna played an excellent match, but above all due to the physical and psycological condition of Stramaccioni’s team. Probably Inter Milan had to pay off the midweek match against Tottenham.
Starting from the first minute , the exhaustion was more than visible, the game predictable and too slow. During the first half Bologna had several occasions without scoring, and Inter Milan no occasions. Schelotto made numerous mistakes, Benassi seemed out of condition as Stankovic and Gargano. The only one that made a decent, but not enough performance has been Rodrigo Palacio.
During the second half, Stramaccioni removed Benassi for Cassano. In this part of the match, Inter Milan seemed showing more will, but at 12′, Diego Perez made a perfect assist for Gilardino, that scored the decisive goal. Gilardino, at first, seemed offside, however the referee’s decision has been right, because Zanetti was in line with him. For the remaining part of the match, Bologna made a defensive game; Inter Milan had few favorable situations.
Negative performance for Stramaccioni’s team, that risks to remain far away from Champions League’s zone for the second year. If the following matches will be played such as this last one, also the qualification for Europe League will become a problem.
