Italy Serie A — 18 November 2012

Stephan El ShaarawyToday was an interesting day for Italian football as two of the three genuine Serie A title contenders played important matches. In the first match current champions and leaders, Juventus, had to settle for a point as the match against Lazio ended 0-0. Juventus dominated the match from start to end but couldn’t find the back to the net thanks to some great saves by Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti. On the other hand Lazio were never dangerous as Gianluigi Buffon enjoyed a relaxed evening as he was never tested.

In the second match of the day, title contenders Napoli faced a weakened AC Milan side. Knowing that Juventus dropped two points, Napoli had to win to close down the six point gap from the leaders. Napoli started the match well as they were enjoying a two goal lead within the first thirty minutes of the match, thanks to a couple of blunders by AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati. The scorers for Napoli were Inler and Insigne. It seemed that Napoli were heading towards a comfortable win but against the flow of play AC Milan managed to narrow the deficit before halftime thanks to a great goal by Stephan El Shaarawy. This goal gave AC Milan confidence and started the second half on a good note as they played attacking football with Napoli waiting for opportunities to strike back with counterattacks. AC Milan’s persistence was rewarded as El Shaarawy scored a second goal to level the match for the Milan based team. With eight minutes plus extra time left to the end of the match both sides tried to win the match but none managed to be dangerous. At the end of the match the happiest side was AC Milan as they managed to earn an important point that seemed impossible in the early stages of the match.
