The remaining first leg Champions League qualification matches were played yesterday. Some smaller sides were in action yesterday. In Zagreb Croatia, Dinamo Zagreb didn’t manage to pull a result as they lost 2-0 against Austria Wien and they are virtually eliminated. Only a miracle will save them from elimination. Austria Wien opened the score in the 68th minute through Marin Leovac and doubled the lead in the 75th minute thanks to a Marko Stankovic shot. In between Dinamo Zagreb had Ante Rukavina sent off for a late challenge. In another match Bulgarian Champions, PFC Ludogorets Razgrad, lost 4-2 to Basel. After Basel took the lead through a Salem strike PFC Ludogorets Razgrad scored two goals to take the lead. Unfortunately their efforts faded into nothing as they conceded three goals to therefore end the match 4-2 with close to no chance of making it to the Champions League group stage. In Romania, Steaua Bucuresti, were held draw by Legia Warszawa. Steaua Bucuresti took the lead in the 34th minute through Federico Piovaccari only to concede an equalizer in the 53rd minute scored by Jakub Kosecki. This encounter is very much open and both sides will have to battle it out in the second leg.
In Germany, Schalke 04 only managed a 1-1 draw against PAOK Thessaloniki FC. Schalke 04 opened the score in the 32nd minute through Farfan with the Greek side scoring the equalizer in the 73rd minute through Miroslav Stoch. Lastly, in Turkey there was the surprise of the day as Arsenal eased past Fenerbahce with a 3-0 win. All the goals were scored in the second half with Kieran Gibbs opening the score in the 51st minute, Aaron Ramsey doubling the lead in the 64th minute and Olivier Giroud sealing the match in the 77th minute by scoring a penalty.
