Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez continues to be heavily linked with the vacant managers’ position at Everton.

The Spaniard will hold talks about his future next week.

The Toffees will also speak to external candidates for the job next week, after talking to internal candidates Phil Neville, Alan Stubbs and David Weir.

Doubts

There are doubts about Martinez’s future at the DW Stadium due to the Latics being relegated at the end of the season.

The Spaniard seems like he is unsure of where his future lies. I am sure he will speak to Everton owner Bill Kenwright about the vacant position at Goodison Park though.

Highly-rated

Roberto Martinez is highly-rated and regarded as one of the best up-and-coming coaches in the Premier League, despite his Wigan team being in a relegation battle for the last four seasons. His work at Wigan creating a team that can play attractive, passing football is why he is so highly-rated.

The Spaniard has never deviated from his football philosophy, even when it has looked grim at times for Wigan. The Latics losing their four year fight for survival may mean time for Martinez to move on.

The fact Martinez is still so highly-rated after relegation tells you just how highly-rated he is. The Latics did impress many people with their 1-0 FA Cup final victory over big-spending Manchester City though.

Likely

Although there are other candidates for the Everton job Roberto Martinez looks the most likely to get the position. The Spaniard will have to work on shoestring budget, but he is accustomed to that at Wigan anyway.

It is a tough job following somebody like David Moyes. Moyes built a very good team that played some very attractive football last season. I hope that if Martinez does get the job he can help the team progress.
