Real Zaragoza scraped a point against Real Madrid, who seemed to play with the handbrake on enough times, perhaps with a commitment to the Champions League next week in mind, and he reacted too late to win.
This draw is useless for Zaragoza, but at least morally should be a boost for the complicated schedule that lies ahead, has greatly improved the bad image that was offering since the start of the second round, where they do not knew about victory.
Having played every game as against his rival today, they would possibly have a different situation.
In the first half, the Real Zaragoza was brave and seek his rival, while Real Madrid played with a controlled pace and without being squeeze to maximum.
The game couldn´t start better for the home side. A steal in the midfield led to a fast counter attack which Rodri rightly culminating in the 6th minute.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Rodri could change the score, the best chance came in the 27th minute on a scramble in the area after a mistake from the goalkeeper Roberto. Pepe headed, but soft enough to let the Dutch central Glenn Loovens save on the goal line.
When Madrid was giving the less sense of danger, Cristiano Ronaldo scored taking advantage of a rebound at the edge of the area with a low shot in the 38th minute, against Roberto who couldn´t cover his goal side.
Immediately afterwards the local target dramatically stopped a header from Michael Essien who would have put the visitors ahead.
Nevertheless, Zaragoza did not lost the hope in the game and gave some action to Diego Lopéz in two counterattacks who was successful in two shots.
With a triple change at minute 61, Mourinho definitely wanted to go for it, ushering Di Maria, Ozil and Khedira.
Forced by the white’s domain, Zaragoza stepped back over the first half, but didn´t quit to continue to attack, but lacked a final pass.
The visitors worked really hard for the victory, but Real Zaragoza defended their net with teeth and nails.
