Premier League Transfer News — 11 October 2012

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski is being linked with a big money move to Premier League Liverpool.

The Reds were expected to strengthen their attack after boss Brendan Rodgers allowed England striker Andy Carroll to go out on loan to West Ham.

Short

Letting Andy Carroll join West Ham left the Reds with just two strikers in Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini. The shortage in strikers has already showed in a lack of goals this season, apart from the five goals Liverpool scored against Norwich.

Prolific

Polish international striker Robert Lewandowski has been prolific for Dortmund since his arrival at the club from Lech Poznan. The striker is one of the most dangerous and in-demand in the European game.

Lewandowski has a goal scoring record of just under a goal every other game. His scoring exploits in the last few years haven’t gone unnoticed in England either.

Linked

The 24 year-old was heavily linked with a move to Premier League Manchester United in the summer. However, United pursued their interest in Robin van Persie instead. Although reports in yesterday’s English papers suggest that the Red Devils could reignite their interest in the striker.

Liverpool wouldn’t want to get into a bidding war with their North West rivals, as the Reds don’t have the funds to compete with Sir Alex Ferguson’s club.

Chance

Lewandowski had a chance to impress Premier League admirers in Dortmund’s 1-1 draw with Manchester city in the Champions League. He was lively on the night, but the performance will have been remembered for him missing a gilt edge chance at 1-0.

The striker should get another chance to impress his English admirers when Poland hosts England on Tuesday night in the World Cup qualifiers. The Dortmund hitman should get the chance to lead the Polish line and leave his watching British admirers with a good impression.

Whether Lewandowski makes his way to the Premier League in January remains to be seen, but he would definitely be a useful addition to any self-respecting top flight English team.
