Arsenal defeated Southampton 6-1 at the Emirates Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>The home side took the lead on 11<sup>th<\/sup> minutes through an unlucky own goal from Saints defender Jos Hooiveld.<\/p>\n<p>Lukas Podolski doubled the Gunners lead with a superb effort from 25 yards. Ivory Coast forward Gervinho made it three in the 35<sup>th<\/sup> minute. Two minutes later Arsenal were four up, as Saints full-back Nathaniel Clyne put past his own keeper.<\/p>\n<p>Southampton got a goal back just before half-time through full-back Danny Fox. However, it got worse for Southampton in the second half, as Gervinho scored his second from close range. Substitute Theo Walcott completed the rout in the 88<sup>th<\/sup> minute.<\/p>\n<p>Manchester United defeated Wigan Athletic 4-0 at Old Trafford. Wigan keeper Ali Al-Habsi saved a Javier Hernandez penalty in the first half as the Latics frustrated United. However, in the 51<sup>st<\/sup> minute Paul Scholes scored on his 700<sup>th<\/sup> appearance for United.<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez made up for his penalty miss by doubling the home sides lead in the 63<sup>rd<\/sup> minute. Full-back Alexander Buttner marked his United debut with a goal three minutes later. Young midfielder Nick Powell also found the net on his debut in the 82<sup>nd<\/sup> minute to round off the victory for the home side.<\/p>\n<p>Champions Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw at Stoke City\u2019s Britannia Stadium. The home side took the lead through former-Tottenham striker Peter Crouch. Manchester City hit back through new signing Javi Garcia, who headed home.<\/p>\n<p>Sunderland and Liverpool are still looking for their first league victories of the season, after the pair drew 1-1 at the Stadium of Light.
