Premier League Transfer News — 05 February 2013

Asmir Begovic is being linked with a summer move to Manchester UnitedStoke City keeper Asmir Begovic has revealed that he believes that he could leave the Britannia Stadium in the summer.

However, he has denied that he has already agreed to join league leaders Manchester United.

Competition

The Bosnian international has been heavily linked with a move to the Manchester giants, but Begovic is waiting to see what happens and believes a move to a bigger club is imminent, after the Potters agreed to sign young England Jack Butland in the summer.

Butland stated when he signed for Stoke on transfer deadline day that he believed he would be more likely to be playing games at Stoke, than Chelsea who were also hoping to sign him. There seems to be no doubt that Butland has been signed as a replacement for Begovic, not competition.

Outstanding

Begovic has been one the standout performers of this season and has now reportedly attracted the attention of a host of big clubs. The 25 year-old is now rated as one of the best keepers in the English top flight.

United

A move to Manchester United would be the logical next step in his career. United have rotated between David de Gea and Anders Lindegaard this season. De Gea is in possession of the shirt at the moment, but has endured some very shaky moments this season.

He is a young keeper and is likely to make mistakes, but those mistakes could prove costly with vital games coming up in the next couple of months.

Competition

When Manchester United brought in Anders Lindegaard he was never going to be first choice keeper at Old Trafford. The Dane was always going to be a backup keeper. Lindegaard is currently not good enough to give David de Gea the competition he needs.

Rather than a bad thing the arrival of Begovic could take some pressure off the under-fire youngster. If United sign Begovic then the young Spaniard may even be loaned to another club to gain experience, as it doesn’t look like he is ready to be Manchester United’s first choice.

Where will Asmir Begovic end up this summer?
